did baltimore county police department. >> and i imagine that this shelter never is slow. always something is going on. >> we are full almost all the time. it's kind of very sad. problem right now is the financial crisis hit us and we have had to stop some of the services we are able to offer our clients. as the financial crisis hits society, that also increases the potential for violence within families because as we know financial crisis brings stress. and when people are stressed, then they may tend to get vilensent within their homes. when it hits us we have had to cut service and the service that is we are able to offer families are reduced so it's a bind. >> and it's a shame. >> yeah. >> how did you get involved in this? what does the bank have to do with the shelter. >> years ago, we were looking for a focus for our employee involvement and charitable giving and asked employees. and they came up with the family crisis center in dundalk where we should focus our efforts.

9:35 am
at our agency when someone somewhere cares, someone somewhere survives. and it is because of people like the employees at the bank that we are able to survive. and that somebody actually lives. >> and it's so great that the bank is so generous but you guys cannot survive just with one local business helping you out. you need the whole community to help you. >> we do. >> how do you need help? if someone is at home saying what can i do? what can people do it's a variety of things that people can do. we need help with our operational budget. and the financial crisis has hit us. donations are down. and we have like i said had to cut employees and that type of thing. but we need operational things to keep the shelter operating. we started a toilet paper club. and people can donate towards toilet paper paper towels and that type of thing. they can give us a call and you will have the number up later. >> give it in case someone is at home. >> 410-285-7496. and we need all types of things
9:36 am
sometimes we need pillows and sometimes we need slippers. people come to us with nothing. they may come -- we had a family show up one day in hospital johnies. and that's all they had. we had to provide clothing and slippers and diapers and we need everything. everything that you need to live that's what we need. and i really want to thank the employees at the bank because they have really come behind us and they have given us school supplies, and christmas presents and food and at holiday time. but i want to tell you this one story one of the employees came through and they did a tour last year. it was just when everyone was talk about the h1n1 virus. in the shelter our families have individual bedroom they don't have to share with others but we have everything else is community. and so the employee came through and realized we were talking about the h1n1 virus and how everyone was quarantined to the bedrooms and when the family was in there and the kids with
9:37 am
their moms they have nothing to do. and the employee look at the rooms and said okay, my goodness someday we would like to put a tv in here. the employee got behind that and gave us a tv for each bedroom. >> wow. >> amazing. >> you must be proud. >> we are very proud. and very happy to support it and we have collection box in the branches that we will forward money to for the shelter. >> all right. so drop stuff off to you. thanks for coming in happy anniversary. >> thanks very much. >> isn't that great. >> great effort. once again, we return to your two cents on today's hot topic on wmar facebook fan page. you believe there should be restriction on what you can buy with food stamps? nia rights in i am on a tight budget and can make sensible food purchases so a person on states budget ought to manage the same and steven asked so food stamps shouldn't be used to buy a cake and drinks for a child's birthday party? if you like to share your two cents head to the wmar facebook
